Karen is a Founding Partner of Tregaskis Brown. She is a sought-after advisor to executive teams on the governance and effective control of portfolios and major programmes of change.  She is valued by her clients for her ability to challenge their thinking and encourage fresh ways of looking at strategic issues.

Many have relied on Karen’s expertise to re-design corporate and change governance models, improve the quality of investment decision-making, governance and management, develop effective strategic and business plans and review under-performing areas of business.

One of New Zealand’s first accredited ILM (Investment Logic Mapping) facilitators (2010), her extensive experience means she is often asked to facilitate more challenging investment discussions or those involving top-level executives.  

Known for her pragmatism and commitment to finding solutions that are right for her client, Karen was honoured at the 2018 Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry

Examples of her work

  • UK Cabinet Office - recently provided Investment Logic Management (ILM) facilitation to key programmes within the UK Cabinet office in London.  
  • Ministry of Defence - Karen is the Tregaskis Brown partner leading a major initiative to transform the way Defence invests in, and develops, new military capabilities.  This has involved a highly collaborative partnership approach with the NZ Defence Force and the Ministry of Defence.  Tregaskis Brown was a finalist in the 2018 Defence Industry Awards for their work on this initiative. This partnership is now in its 4th year.
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade - Karen is leading Tregaskis Brown's partnership with APEC21 providing governance support, Business Case support, programme and project expertise and support.

Karen has led a wide range of governance and strategic workshops with senior executives, including the Department of Internal Affairs, ACC, Ministry for Primary Industries, Ministry of Defence, NZ Police, Crown Law Office and Fire and Emergency NZ.

  • Presented a Masterclass 'Making Change Stick' at the 2019 PMINZ Conference
  • Presented on ‘Governance in the Public Sector’ at two Career Board evenings for Public Sector Chief Executives and their Deputies in 2018 and 2019
  • Regularly presents at the Project Management Institute Conference – in 2018 Karen spoke on how to get the most from Portfolio, Programme and Project Boards
  • Spoke at the IPANZ Conference for young public sector professionals in 2018 on ‘working to your strengths’
