Mike is an authentic, inclusive and action-oriented senior leader with a passion for improving organisational performance by employing both incremental and radical change processes. A natural programme manager, he establishes robust frameworks and processes while focusing on achieving the outcomes required by the organisation.

He is a critical and influential thinker with a broad base of knowledge and practical experience along with demonstrated ability to consistently exceed expectations through building and motivating high performing teams and effective stakeholder management.

Mike quickly adapts to any new environment and has consistently delivered outstanding performance. He has a quiet and unassuming manner, somewhat masking his drive and determination  - key assets in engaging stakeholders and creating confidence with governance groups.

Recent Experience

Kainga Ora - Programme Manager, Customer Programme, Mike is currently engaged to lead the Customer Programme, which is responsible for leading a significant programme of work to improve the range and quality of services that Kainga Ora provides to its public housing customers: the approximately 185,000 New Zealanders who live in its homes.

Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, Organisational Change Management Consultant, Sept 2017 – Dec 2019. Mike was engaged as the change manager/lead across a variety of major transformation projects within the Corporate Governance and Information (CGI) and Finance and Performance groups at MBIE. He also concurrently stepped into leadership roles to set up and embed change in newly created teams. These assignments included;

  • Programme Manager, Legal Services, Business Improvement Programme
  • Change Lead, Payroll Renewal Project (system replacement)
  • Change Manager, Evidence and Insights Branch Reorganisation
  • Head of Health, Safety & Wellness
  • Change Manager, CGI Realignment (Operating Model Review) Project

Public Trust Office of NZ Project and Stakeholder Management Mike successfully negotiated and gained stakeholder approval for a new two-year Services Agreement with Ministry of Justice on much improved terms for Public Trust, while managing and maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Ministry through implementation of the new terms and policies.

Head of Customer Services, Mike received Outstanding Performer recognition for maintaining high staff engagement while leading a centralised, nine team Business Unit of 90 people through a radical, firm-wide reorganisation.


Mike has an MBA (with Distinction) from Victoria University and an LLB (Hons) from the University of Warwick.  He is also a qualified Prince2 Practitioner and attended the advanced leadership programme at Auckland University.
